Dessian Scotland turns 25!
Cumbernauld-based window fabricator Dessian Scotland is celebrating 25 years of trading.
Dessian Scotland was first established in 1999 as an offshoot of Belfast-based Dessian Products Limited, as part of a move to increase the company’s commercial presence in Scotland.
Des Longmore, owner of Dessian at the time, contacted John McDermott, a well-known figure in the Scottish fenestration industry, with a view to him setting up a commercial division for Dessian in Scotland. John headed up the company as General Manager and with over 20 years’ experience in the industry, set about establishing the Dessian brand in Scotland. John’s dedication, hard work, drive and investment in people are key factors to its success.
Today, Dessian Scotland’s team is 24-strong across the factory, office and installation teams. Testament to the company’s people-focused approach is their retention rate, with 60% of the workforce having been at the company for over 10 years. They invest in training for their staff, with several making their way from school up to senior positions.
John McDermott and Robin Rae, Quantity Surveyor, are also celebrating 25 years long service having both worked there since its inception and have worked together in the industry for over 35 years!
The company also has an excellent long-term partnership with its supplier REHAU.
Jorge Lopes, MD, comments “We are delighted to celebrate a significant milestone—25 years since Dessian opened its doors in Scotland. This achievement underscores the dedication of our exceptional team and the unwavering loyalty of our valued customers. Here’s to many more years of growth and success together!”
Longterm Service
Dessian's celebrating years of dedication!
Lee Dempster, our Customer Service Manager, started his journey as a fresh faced 17-year-old 30 years ago this month (May).
Our Finance Director Glynis Cousins reached 25 years earlier this year along with Rab Barrow from the Despatch team who has been with us for 20 years.
And let's not forget Ann Vincent, Alison Banford, Maxine Maginess and Marty Bell marking 35 years of service this year. This award is new, so many have already surpassed it by a few years! 🏆
Thank you all for your commitment and loyalty.
World Health Day (April)
We marked April's World Health Day by giving each member of staff a bag with two pieces of fruit and a bottle of water.
Luckily, the rain held off, allowing some of us to enjoy a brisk 1.3km walk at lunchtime too.
Turns out that fresh air, exercise and social interaction are great for your mental health as well as your physical well-being.

Cheque Handover to Autism NI
In February, we were thrilled to present Autism NI, our selected charity for 2023, with a cheque totalling £1650.
Our generous staff, and parent company Gaffer, contributed to this amount through various fundraising initiatives, such as our annual football match, FIFA competition, coffee morning and Bonus Ball games.
This donation will support 15 early intervention sessions in the homes of autistic children, assisting them with their behaviours.
Festive Fundraiser
Dessian's festive CSR finale was a Christmas Jumper Day and Bumper Bonus Ball game!
Well done to Freddie Mitchell, our £200 winner, and congratulations to runners up Dylan Pitman and George Irvine who each won a hamper each.
We were delighted to have raised another £200 for Autism NI!
FIFA Final and coffee morning fundraiser
In November, we finally reached the pinnacle of our FIFA competition! The stage was set for a thrilling rematch between our two gaming titans, Caolan O'Reilly and Ryan Barrow, reminiscent of last year's showdown.
Well done to Caolan who once again emerged victorious, securing his title as Dessian's FIFA Champion. Caolan walked away with a £50 voucher of his choice.
We also hosted a coffee morning to watch the final and we were delighted to have Keith from @Autism NI join us, updating our team on how the funds we raise this year will make a meaningful impact to people and families affected by autism.
Thanks to everyone who took part, we raised total of £130!

Bonus Ball Fundraiser
As part of our CSR fundraising plan, we ran a Bonus Ball game at the end of September to help raise money for our chosen charity Autism NI.
Squares 1-100 were sold for £2 each and the bonus ball was revealed to be number 76.
Derek from Stores for hit the jackpot and won £100 with the remaining £100 raised for this great cause. It's great to see how a little bit of fun can also help to make a difference to local people affected by Autism.
Summer staff BBQ
In August, we turned up the heat and had our annual Summer BBQ. What a sizzling success!
The sun was shining (amazingly), the food was delicious and the craic was great. A big shout out to everyone who joined in the festivities and to our Night shift team who also enjoyed a burger night.
Axe Throwing Social Night
On Friday 30th June a group of us took part in the Dessian social night at The Axe Yard as part of this year’s CSR initiative.
We were there to test our axe wielding skills. Miroslaw from the Nightshift emerged as the clear winner of the competition, showcasing impressive accuracy and skill.
As a reward he earned a well-deserved Axe Yard voucher which he plans to use to teach his daughter the art of axe throwing. It was a night filled with fun and friendly competition.
Hell and Back Challenge
A team from Dessian took part in the 8Km Hell and Back assault course on Saturday 10th June in Bray, Co. Wicklow.
What a day it was - hot, cold, wet, muddy, gruelling but hugely fun and rewarding all at the same time.
There were a few injuries and sore muscles by the end but it was all for a good cause - local charity “Life After Loss” who help bereaved families through baby loss.
Dessian raised a magnificent £2000! Thank you to everyone who took part and also to those who supported us.
